ABOUT
Shaul Sharabany
Born in Tel Aviv in 1969, Shaul Sharabany is a multidisciplinary artist whose transition into painting represents the culmination of a lifelong creative journey. Sharabany brings decades of artistic sensibility honed through carpentry, poetry, and an intuitive understanding of material and form to his canvas work.
Sharabany’s acrylic paintings explore the intricate tapestry of human relationships – their inherent fragility, unexpected strength, and profound beauty. His work captures the delicate balance between connection and isolation, vulnerability and resilience, employing bold color relationships and gestural mark-making to convey the emotional complexity of interpersonal bonds. The interplay of vibrant reds and deep blacks in his compositions speaks to the dualities that define human experience: passion and melancholy, intimacy and distance, chaos and order.
A frequent traveler, Shaul draws inspiration from his encounters with diverse cultures and the people he meets across the globe. These international experiences inform his understanding of universal human experiences, enriching his artistic vocabulary with a worldly perspective on connection and community.
Sharabany’s artistic process begins with structured geometric explorations, foundational lines that give way to a more visceral application of paint, building texture and depth to create the final artwork. Music is integral to his practice—sometimes loud and energetic, other times the silent whisper of cello or piano—creating a sonic environment that influences the rhythm and emotional tenor of each piece. This synthesis of deliberate structure and intuitive expression reflects his craftsman’s approach to materials, combined with a poet’s sensitivity to nuance and meaning. His paintings reveal layers of meaning through their physical construction—scraping, building, and revealing paint in ways that mirror how relationships themselves are formed, tested, and transformed over time.
Shaul’s work invites contemplation of our shared humanity, presenting visual metaphors for the connections that bind us while acknowledging the beautiful imperfections that make those bonds authentic. His paintings serve as meditations on the human condition, offering viewers a space to reflect on their own experiences of love, loss, and the courage required to remain open to connection.
The artist lives and works in Tel Aviv, where he continues to develop his distinctive visual language exploring themes of human connection and emotional authenticity.
